The Scott: Use of historic materials in the building renovation and rehab

Construction in Tucson at the turn of the century utilized local materials for building the Santa Rita Hotel in 1904 and the Scott in 1907. They were both built with a foundation of “A” Mountain rock and wood beams milled from Mt. Lemon Pine Forests.

The Scott has made extra efforts to expose the history of local building materials when possible. When the 105 year old the Santa Rita Hotel was being demolished we were able to salvage a number of the beams from the floor joists made of the Mt. Lemon Pine floor joists. These thick seasonal planks have been re-used throughout the building for the reception area desk, the counter top of which is from the sidewalk from the recently renovated Scott Ave sidewalk, this sidewalk slab dates from 1907. The wood planks were milled into the window finish on the upstairs office spaces.
